Aftercare - Brows
+ 24 Hours Post Procedure - 14 Days
No water or liquids on affected area for 24 hours after microblading procedure. Dab excess lymph fluid with a clean napkin during first 24 hours.
- Wash the brows once a day in the evening - you do not want the brows wet or to retain moisture for more than 30-60 seconds. Any type of retained moisture will cause scabbing and expand the stroke.
- Only use warm water and a mild soap with no harsh chemicals (ex. Cetaphil)
- Apply a thin layer of the barrier cream provided after cleansing. Use clean fingers and make sure your brows are not greasy, just slightly moisturized.
- *Clients with Oily Skin" Blot the brows as needed throughout the day with blotting paper.
- If itching occurs, you can use an antiseptic spray, Bactine which will also disinfect the area.
- Do not use any other ointments, or creams with vitamins or antibiotics on brows.
- No sunbathing, or tanning for 4 weeks.
- No chemical peels, mesotherapy, dermabrasion, Botox or any other intense treatments for 4 weeks.
- Do not use any makeup or cosmetics on affected area for 2 weeks.
- Do not scratch, touch or sleep on your brows for at least 2 weeks.
- No heavy workouts for 10 days. Avoid sweating.
- Avoid Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline during your healing period. Anything with a petroleum base can cause a reaction, crusting, scabbing and sweating so the skin is not able to breathe.
+ What’s normal?
- Mild swelling, itching, light scabbing, light bruising and dry tightness. Ice packs are a nice relief for swelling and bruising. Use barrier cream provided as directed.
- Bolder/thicker brow appearance.
- Uneven/patchy during peeling process. If they are still uneven after 4 weeks, adjustments can be made during Perfecting Session.
- As the procedure area heals the color will lighten and sometimes seem to disappear. Please be patient as during the 3 - 6 weeks post initial procedure, the color will gain new strength.
+ Healing Process and Touch-Up
- If you keep your brows clean and dry, only a thin film (not a scab) will appear after 4 - 7 days. It will peel off itself in 7 - 10 days (do NOT peel it off). After the film peels off you can still feel some dryness, in this case continue the use of the barrier cream as needed.
- Be careful with any cleaning in the affected area. The full healing period is 28 - 45 days to reveal the true color.
- If there is any contact with water, sebum or sweat, the wound will expand and cause a scab. The scab will result in itching and peeling of the pigment. If you scratch the scab, a scar or white spot can appear and no pigment will be left.
- A touch up may be needed 9 months to 2 years after the perfecting session depending on your skin, medications and sun exposure. We recommend the perfecting session 6 - 12 weeks after the initial session, and every 9 months to 2 years to keep them looking fresh and beautiful. There will be a charge for any additional touch-ups after the Perfecting Session.
- Failure to follow aftercare instructions may result in infections, pigment loss or discoloration. Everyone’s skin heals differently.
- It is important to remember that this is a two-part process and the perfecting session will complete the procedure. Depending on what is needed, some people will need to fill in missing hairs, make hairs longer or achieve a more intensive color.
+ After Treatment
- The first appointment is about structure, design, and building hairstrokes. The touch-up is about seeing how the skin heals and retains pigment, as well as making any neccesary adjustments to achieve more definition and volume.
- Immediately following your procedure, the tattooed area will appear to be darker and bolder in color and more sharply defined. Over the next few days it will appear even darker and thicker as scabs begin to form. Let the scabs naturally flake off bit by bit. It will take up to 14 days for scabbing to be over.
- You may NOT get the area wet or apply any kind of products (except what I provide for your aftercare) for at least 24 hours after.
- NO makeup or cosmetics on the area for 2 weeks
+ A Possible Risks, Hazards, or Complications
- Pain: There can be pain even after the topical anesthetic has been used. Anesthetics work better on some people than on others.
- Infection: Infection is very unusual. The areas treated must be kept clean, and only freshly cleaned hands should touch the areas. See “After Care” for instruction on care.
- Uneven Pigmentation: This can result from poor healing, infection, bleeding, or many other causes. Your touch-up appointment will likely correct any uneven appearance.
- Asymmetry: Every effort will be made to avoid asymmetry, but our faces are not symmetrical so adjustments may be needed during the follow-up session to correct any unevenness.
- Excessive Swelling or Bruising: Some people bruise or swell more than others. Ice packs may help reduce the swelling. The swelling or bruising typically disappears in 1-5 days. Some people don’t bruise or swell at all.
- Anesthetics: Topical anesthetics are used to numb the area to be tattooed. Lidocaine, Prilocaine, Benzocaine, Tetracaine, and/or Epinephrine cream and/or liquid are used. If you are allergic to any of these, please inform me now.
- MRI: Because pigments used in Permanent Cosmetic procedures contain iron oxides, a low level magnet may be required if you need to be scanned by an MRI machine. You must inform your MRI Technician of any tattoos or permanent cosmetics.
